Four Foods On Friday 55

Questions about turkey can only mean one thing: American Thanksgiving is on the horizon. Thanks to some local expat friends we too will be celebrating this annual feast of gluttony in a few weeks time. After typing up the answers to this week’s meme, Thanksgiving and all its wondrously yummy foods cannot come soon enough!

1. Stuffing. Boxed or from scratch?
Hubby introduced me to the glories of Stove Top Stuffing shortly after we were married as it represents one of his favourite childhood memories. That said, nothing tastes as good as stuffing made from scratch and cooked in the bird.

2. If you were served the perfect Thanksgiving dinner what would it be?
In my prefect, pretend world we would start with my father’s curried pumpkin soup. From there we will move to the main course which will include a roasted turkey, two kinds of stuffing (chestnut and mushroom), gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, potatoes (any kind but roasted would be nice), peas, carrots, beans, and cauliflower with homemade cheese sauce. For dessert I would like pumpkin pie and orange pudding.

Please note that this meal may be served again in its entirety (with a few additions) next month for Christmas.

3. What’s your favorite Thanksgiving leftover?
Not there there’s any ever leftover, but I love a good stuffing sandwich!

4. Share a recipe using turkey.
Now that I’ve given myself a craving for all things turkey here is the perfect stuffing sandwich:

Slather leftover cranberry sauce on one side of two pieces of whole wheat bread. On top of the cranberry goodness place leftover slices of turkey. Finally, when no one is looking, steal the leftover stuffing and distribute it evenly over the turkey. Cap your sandwich with its twin slice of bread and eat.

Your sandwich should taste exactly Thanksgiving – only whole wheat-ier.

We had Thanksgiving last month--which gives us an extra month to recuperate before Christmas!

Mmmm! Turkey and all the fixin's! I am so glad we have a real sized oven here. We've lived in an apartment with a itty-bitty oven and it was very so sad. We could barely fit a large chicken in to roast. It's not the same.

How much would it cost for me to hire you to come cook that dinner at my house ????

That is exactly how I eat TG leftovers! And on wheat bread to boot! I don't know what I'm going to do this year now that I know I'm allergic to gluten (well, more like sensative, as the dr explained). It's supposed to be no breads for me. I think I might eat some stuffing and have me a sandwich the next day anyway (and just deal with the gurgly tummy).

We were working on our dinner menu last night. Because all of a sudden we changed from five people to 14. I think the dessert list is longer than the dinner items.

My mom was asking me about stuffing. And I just despise the stuff. Or I haven't had a good one yet. So, no stuffing on our table.

My sister loves that sandwich and would even order it year round at a sub shop. I like it without the cranberry sauce. I know it's unThanksgiving like but I've never have liked cranberry sauce.

Mmm....homemade stuffing.... I finally convinced my mother to give me her super-secret recipe last year (which now makes it not-so-secret!). We have to requisition a kitchen with an appropriately sized oven for Thanksgiving this year...here's hoping we can pull it off!

Stuffing sandwiches?? I might have to try that. Everything sounds so yummy.

I would be content if my Thanksgiving dinner consisted of stuffing (sausage variety), gravy, and turkey skin. Yes the skin, not the meat. OK, and some mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. I could eat POUNDS of stuffing though.

I'm drooling at the very thought of your perfect Thanksgiving dinner. Two kinds of stuffing?? Now that's something to aim for if I can get my hands on a turkey this year ;)

I had a friend completely rag on me when I had a stuffing sandwich a long time ago.

"You know you're just having a BREAD SANDWICH, right?"

But it's so yummy!

happy thanksgiving :)

Your sandwich sounds good with the cranberry sauce on it. I'm not sure about the stuffing. I'll have to try it and see.

My company edits a Thanksgiving website for a client, and the #1 no no is cooking stuffing inside the turkey. Big bacteria risk!
