Saturday Escapes

I’ve decided to experiment with a new series of weekly posts. Every Saturday for as long as I have something cool to share (and if I remember to do so), I am going to post a random photo and tie it into a cool website that I love. Every week, I’ll showcase a different website and a new photo from my album.

Our first awesome website is This is Why You’re Fat. If you aren’t already a devotee of this addictive site, visit and then come back and tell me all about your favourite yummy disgusting dish. (I’m a comment whore that way!) While more than half the photos of food on TIWYF are legitimately disgusting, a scary percentage make me stop and say, “Well, that doesn’t look too bad. I’ll have one of those.”

Which brings us to the smorgasbord we were served at Tanyacsárda, the location of the final conference dinner about two hours outside of Budapest. After we came in from the amazing but water logged traditional equestrian show, each table was presented with an overflowing platter of meat. When the food arrived, I wasn’t the only one with a dubious look on my face but five minutes, two sausages, several bites of chicken, pork, and other delicacies later, I had to admit it: when it comes to food, looks aren’t always everything.

This is Why You’re Fat is this week’s Saturday Escape!

Well, it's not exactly a dish but how about pork rinds?

I'm here from SITS Saturday Sharefest and I hit the jackpot this week with your blog. It's fantastic and so interesting and I'm having a good time reading your posts.

Hah! Never heard of that web site before, it's so funny.
I'd like the English breakfast served in the martini glass made of bacon, lol.

The swisswich looks pretty tasty! Though I AM a food whore. Check out tastespotting.com (it's on my sidebar) for what they call "a visual pot luck". You can thank me later. ;)

That is hilarious. The bacon goblet. The Widowmaker. And the rubix cube sandwich is just inspired. I have spent half my morning looking at that site instead of getting ready to take Katie to her tennis match!

Oh nice... I love meat! Haha!

But being the typical Asian I am... my choice of fat, i mean feed, is the 'usual' totally sinful choices of "nasi lemak" (malay for coconut rice) and "char kway teow" (fried noodles)...

Oh my, I am getting hungry just thinking about it! :P

Yes, this is why I'm fat. In particular, I'm trying to cook/bake myself around the world. And while I'm getting pretty good at it, this avocation is decidedly not good for my waistline!

I am already in the middle of a salt/cheese crave - I better not go look at the website :p ! One of my favorite, not so healthy treats, that always makes people say 'ew!' is cream cheese on rye bread, covered in green olives. What's wrong with that? Salt, cheese, bread... 3 of the 6 basic food groups right? (only missing the chocolate, beef, and wine). Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I rarely have these items in my house and so I haven't had it in years... sigh..

Is it wrong that this website made me hungry?! I could have tried that Jalapeno Popper Casserole and LOVED it :)

Some of those things were down right disgusting (anything that involves a Twinkie, or 24).
