In Flanders Fields
Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae (1872-1918)
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

So sad but yet beautiful.
This always gives me chills. Thanks to all who have served.
Beautiful remembrance! Great post for today!
Visiting from SITS.
So appropriate for today! I thanked my veteran this morning for serving my country:-) My husband is very proud of his duty.
Bernie did his Reading at his church on Sunday.
All is well when we can still Remember those who Died with Pride.

I remember last year I wrote a post about Remembrance Day as well. I think it's important to me as I used to be in the Army Cadet. I even sold poppies once at Zellers! Hahaha.
I always get chills when I read this. So beautiful and haunting.
Lest we forget.
I remember learning the poem at school.
Sad but powerful...

Thank you for posting this!
I wish we lived in a world where this day doesn't have to exist...

I've seen the poppies all over England but I didn't know if it was ok for me, an American , to be wearing one.
Thanks for the beautiful post.
